As part of the commemoration for the 30th anniversary of the All Japan Kendo Federation, the Championship Selection Tournament was held, which later became recognized as the most prestigious competition in modern kendo history for its spirit, physical prowess, and skill. Top kendo practitioners from all over Japan, including the champions of the All Japan Championships and selected athletes from organizations such as the police and schools, gathered together. The event saw these renowned swordsmen battle fiercely with all their wisdom and ability.
